First in understanding pain it is important to get a handle on what it is.
- a healthy response to an unhealthy situation. For example if your body structure( bones, muscles, ligaments) are out of alignment and not functioning properly with each other, pain is a healthy response to the unhealthy alignment of your foundation.
-a way for the body to get your attention. Pain gets our attention and is filled with information; if we listen. What is our body saying? Is our body asking us to do something differently? With more focus? With better alignment? Is our body trying to tell us something? Listening without fear and without judgement is important.
-a healthy response to a healthy situation. There are many times that we can be in pain and it doesn't mean something is wrong. Personally when I have been in pain it felt like something must be wrong with me or that it something I am doing but there are times when pain's message is not that something is wrong. For example when something is healing it may hurt. There is something called a HEALING CRISIS. A healing crisis is when you start something new that is healthy and good for you and you experience an increase in your symptom. This is your body's way of telling you..too much of a good thing too fast...slow down...is there another way you can do this that is gentler or more personalized to you?
Why we have pain:
-pain is important & valuable. Pain, physical or emotional helps us to grow and change. It can signal us of an area that needs our loving and nurturing attention.
It is my personal and professional opinion that faith is what heals pain. What I mean by faith is the trust and confidence we have in someone or something. A pill or a shot can block or mask pain for a bit but the confidence you build in your body and in yourself by growing/changing/evolving is truly what has the power to heal us. The power to heal yourself, the miraculous healing power of the mind and the body... that is where the MOJO is. This doesn't mean you have to do it alone. Often times people come in our lives that help us facilitate this healing; these changes. They can be friends, family, doctors, therapists, or someone you meet on the street. What you believe is very powerful. If you feel stuck, lost, in pain, struggling, like you will never get there here are a few things to grab ahold of for support:
- it is a process and a journey that is for a good reason
- do not give up-you are worth it
- reach out to someone-do not do it alone
- acceptance of ourselves opens us up to loving ourselves which leads to positive changes
-- FAITH heals. Have confidence in yourself! You can and you are doing it...one step at at time. Focus your mind and beliefs and your body will follow.
