My Journey to be PAIN FREE!
While recovering I felt invincible. Who survives 2 major car accidents in 3 months...I did! At 22 years young I thought I had it all figured out. Little did I know that those grandiose feelings would soon be exchanged for a nagging pain in my lower back that wouldn't go away, A pain that was considerably aggravated by being active or after a long night's sleep.
Before this point I had never broken a bone, had a stitch, ...I had never been in pain. I did have poor posture though. Especially in my teenage years. It isn't very cool to be 15 and stand up straight. I know now that my terrible posture made my body less able to absorb the impact of the car accidents. On top of that add the repetition doing massage therapy for a living and my poor posture made me a moving target for injury.
In my massage practice with clients I was seeing the same thing. Clients needed massage therapy regularly to stay pain free, especially if they had something serious like a bad back. They left their appointments feeling GREAT and then return a week or two later with the same muscle tension. Each appointment we would work the same tight/sore muscles. While this was great for business it wasn't getting to the root of the problem and it wasn't providing long term results!
Now I had a tool to get better! It took time but while doing my exercises daily I balanced my body enough times and improved my posture enough to become and STAY pain free! Glory Glory Halleluja! Once I got there I needed to maintain these positive changes which I have done now for 6 years. To be honest I'm not perfect about doing my exercises but the more I do the better I feel.
